Bodega Casa Montaña

Bodega Casa Montaña is the oldest tavern in València. Founded in 1836 in El Cabanyal, people still eat and drink among century-old wooden barrels much as they did almost two hundred years ago. In 2023 it was named Best Wine Bar in Spain, and stepping inside feels like stepping into the old seafaring València.

Almost two centuries of history

It started as a grocer's shop that sold oil, wine and spirits to neighbours, sailors and ships from the port. It was originally a hut; the façade you see today dates from the 1880 renovation. Generation after generation, it has kept its large wooden casks, its counter and an atmosphere that feels frozen in time, with no pretension at all.

What to order

• A long wine list, served by the glass, with strong Spanish labels and revived native Valencian varieties.
• Traditional tapas from sea and garden: anchovies, preserves, cured meats, pickles, omelette.
• Vegetarian and vegan options with local, seasonal produce.

Practical tips

It sits inside the Cabanyal's street grid, a short walk from the beach, and you can reach it by metro or tram in about 20 minutes.
