Monument

Beniparrell

The cloister of the old Carmelite convent, founded in 1603 after the transfer of the hermitage of Santa Bàrbara and sixteen fanegadas of land. For centuries the conventual complex was the core of life in Beniparrell; in the 19th century, with the church land sales, it passed into private hands.

The Claustre de l'Antic convent dels Carmelites belongs to the convent founded in April 1603. The Carmelites received the old hermitage of Santa Bàrbara and sixteen fanegadas of land, which gave the foundation its material base. During the 19th century the church land sales passed it into private hands, and the complex changed function. The cloister is what best preserves the memory of that conventual period. Reading it today requires imagining the other rooms that accompanied the life of the community. A visit to the cloister makes it possible to imagine that past and to value what remains.
