La Cruz de Benidorm (Mirador de la Creu)

The Cruz de Benidorm (Mirador de la Creu, or Benidorm Cross) is a large white cross built in 1961 on the slopes of the Serra Gelada Natural Park, overlooking the far end of Levante beach. The climb takes some effort, but from here you get the best view of Benidorm's high-rise skyline and the whole bay. The visit is free.

How to get there and what to expect

Access is on foot from the Cala de Tío Ximo area: a walk of around 45 minutes with some uphill sections. It's not a demanding route, but it's worth taking slowly and enjoying the Mediterranean mountain scenery as you climb.

What you'll see from the viewpoint

At the top there's a wide-open view of the city, its skyline of towers set against the sea, the two main beaches and the blue of the bay. It pairs well with other viewpoints in town, such as the Balcón del Mediterráneo or the Intempo skyscraper.

Tips for your visit

• Sunset is the best time to go up: the golden light on the buildings is worth the walk.
• Wear comfortable shoes and bring water and sun protection; there's little shade along the path.
• If you climb up for sunset, be ready for the walk back down in the dark, with a torch or your phone.
• Combine it with a day in Benidorm and its beaches.
