Església de Sant Bartomeu
Baroque parish church from the 18th century, built on an earlier church of which very little documentation survives. Work began on 25 May 1724 and was completed on 9 October 1743, and the building remains the religious reference point of Benicarló's historic centre.
The church of Sant Bartomeu is a Baroque parish temple built in the 18th century. Work began on 25 May 1724 and concluded on 9 October 1743, so the present building reflects a project developed over almost two decades of work. It was erected in place of an earlier temple of which very little documentation survives, and the complex therefore combines the Baroque design with the memory of the building that previously occupied the same site. The result is a religious building with a well-documented chronology, from the laying of the first stone to its completion.
