The parish church of Vilallonga was built from 1719 and inaugurated on 6 November 1757. The temple presides over the plaça de la Senyoria, in the historic core of the town, and is one of the landmarks of the ensemble. The history of the municipality was marked by two earlier events: James I conquered Vilallonga in 1248, and in 1250 the king granted the Carta Pobla. Both events helped shape the settlement whose layout can still be recognised in the old town today. The religious building remains a visual reference in the historic centre.
