The Estanys d'Almenara are three lagoons that form the remains of an old wetland, preserved thanks to two freshwater springs that flow permanently. In the area, numerous species of water birds and fish can be observed in a marshland setting with reed beds. The lagoons are part of the Marjal de los Ullals, a wetland of 1,486.76 hectares spread across several municipalities, so this corner of Almenara belongs to a natural system on a larger scale. The constant presence of fresh water sustains the marsh vegetation and the animal communities associated with the wetland.
