Open in Google Maps

The Font de la Murta is the spring that supplied water to the Jeronymite monastery in the Murta valley, in the municipality of Alzira, in the Ribera Alta district. The water collects in two pools behind the monastery and arrives through an 18th-century stone aqueduct. The myrtle that gives the valley its name grows along the path and keeps the ravine green.

The starting point

The walk starts at the valley car park, by the information hut. It is reached by following the signs behind the hospital, along Carrer de la Travessa. The SL-CV 82 trail sheet marks the information point as the start of the historic path, which shares a stretch with the PR-CV 334.

The path to the spring

From the entrance, by the old guard's house, the historic path leads to the signposted turn-off for the spring. The last stretch is a narrow path that drops beside the aqueduct to the two pools behind the monastery. Along the way it passes the Santa Marta and Calvari chapels, and the same path links the iron cross, the ice house, the Felipe II bridge, the oil mill and the romantic garden with its chapel.

Opening hours and closures

Entry is free but follows published hours: Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 14:00, and weekends and holidays from 08:00 to 17:00, with entry control until 15:00. Capacity is limited to 200 entries per hour, and groups of more than 15 people must arrange the visit with the environment office a week in advance. The valley can close on grounds of serious fire risk or weather; the town council announces it on its social networks, so check them on the day, as well as PREVIFOC and GVA112.
