Mirador de la Plaça de Sant Gregori

At the very top of the old village of Guadalest, the little square of Sant Gregori opens out like a natural balcony over the turquoise reservoir and the mountains of the Marina Baixa. It's one of those spots that makes the climb worth it on its own, and enjoying it costs nothing.

What you can see

The panorama takes in the whole valley at a glance: the emerald water of the reservoir below, the surrounding mountain slopes, and, set against the sky, the outline of the village with its bell tower perched on the rock. It is the highest, most open point of the old quarter, so the view reaches far in every direction.

Tips for your visit

• Come at sunset: the warm light over the reservoir gives the best photo of Guadalest.
• The climb up is steep and cobbled; wear comfortable shoes and take it slowly.
• The square is small, so mid-morning or mid-afternoon are usually quieter than peak hours.
• There is no shade or facilities at the top; bring water in summer.
