Iglesia parroquial de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles

In the heart of the old town of Serra, overlooking the Plaza de la Iglesia, the Parish Church of Our Lady of the Angels is the village's main temple and the centre of its religious life. Neoclassical in style and quietly elegant, it presides over the town's celebrations and festivals with its titular image and is listed as an Asset of Local Relevance.

History

The building was raised in the late 18th century and completed around 1800, to a design by the master builder Francisco Pechuán. It reflects the neoclassical taste that took hold in many Valencian parish churches of the period, marked by a search for balance, clarity and proportion in contrast to the earlier exuberance of the Baroque.

What to see

The interior is laid out as a single nave, articulated by pilasters and round arches and covered by a barrel vault that lends the whole a sense of breadth and calm. The high altar is presided over by the image of Our Lady of the Angels, the church's patron and devotional focus.
