El Vedat
A residential garden suburb built over a former pine forest on the Sierra Perenxisa, on the outskirts of Torrent. It has almost no monumental attractions, but a waymarked route through the pines makes it the district's closest green escape.
El Vedat is the residential area covering the slopes of the Sierra Perenxisa, around 3 km west of Torrent's town centre, at about 100 metres above sea level. The name comes from the fact that, before it was developed, the pine forest was off-limits to hunters and woodcutters. The first buildings date from the mid-19th century — including an 1848 telecommunications tower known as «la Torreta» — and development accelerated mainly between the 1960s and 1970s, when it filled up with second-home chalets.
What to expect
It's worth being clear about what El Vedat is: not a village with monuments to visit, but a residential garden city of chalets among pine trees, with a scattering of local shops and services. Its real appeal is the natural setting around it: a well-preserved pine forest that acts as green lungs for the whole metropolitan area.
The SL-CV 49 path runs through it, a waymarked short-distance route that crosses the forested area and is the perfect excuse to walk an hour or two among the pines without leaving Torrent's municipal boundary. It's a simple, free option for anyone looking for fresh air near València without travelling as far as the Sierra Calderona or Los Serranos.
