What to see in Torrent

Torrent is the largest town in the Valencia metropolitan area and the capital of the l'Horta Sud comarca (region): in 2024, the municipal register recorded 89,401 inhabitants, more people than live in quite a few Spanish provincial capitals. Just 8 km from the city centre, today it is primarily a commuter town with its own distinct character, but it retains an old quarter with more heritage than its size suggests: a medieval defensive tower that is the symbol of the entire town, a free regional museum, a 17th-century church, and a historic garden that few Valencians know about.

It's not a picture-postcard town, nor does it pretend to be: it's a real place, with traffic, industrial estates, and apartment blocks surrounding the old core. But for those looking for something different from the usual tourist trail, Torrent offers a full afternoon just a stone's throw from home, and also serves as a gateway to the Sierra Perenxisa and the garden-neighbourhood of El Vedat, with its pine forests and hiking trails.

How to get there from Valencia

Torrent has the advantage of being part of the Metrovalencia network: Torrent station is on Line 1, which continues south to Castelló (de la Ribera), while Torrent Avinguda station is the southern terminus of Lines 2 and 7. By car, the journey via the CV-36/A-3 barely exceeds 15-20 minutes without traffic. It is, along with Alboraya, one of the easiest towns in the metropolitan area to visit without a car.
