Bodega Casa Montaña
An 1836 bodega among century-old wooden barrels where you snack on tapas just like a hundred years ago, repeatedly awarded one of the best wine bars in Spain. Anchovies, esgarraet, salt-cod croquettes and a legendary cellar: pure seafaring tradition, no pretension.
💡 Local tip: Reserve or arrive early; order the traditional tapas selection and let them pair a wine for you.
Casa Montaña opened in 1836 as a grocery store selling oils, wines and spirits for the residents and sailors of the maritime district of El Cabanyal. It passed to the founders' daughter in 1861, and in 1880 the modernist facade that it still preserves was erected. Since then it has not closed its doors for a single day, making it one of the oldest wine bars in Spain still in operation.
Since 1994 it has been run by Emiliano García Domene, who has maintained the spirit of a seafaring tavern among century-old wooden barrels. It is repeatedly cited among the best wine bars in Spain.
You can have tapas standing up or seated at the marble tables: marinated anchovies, esgarraet, cod croquettes and a wine list that is enough to spend the whole afternoon.
