Barrio de Santa Cruz

The Barrio de Santa Cruz is the oldest corner of Alicante: a maze of steep little streets climbing toward the castle, with whitewashed houses, pots of flowers on every corner, and façades painted blue, red and green. Wandering through it is free and feels like stepping into a small village hidden inside the city.

What to see

The real appeal is getting lost with no fixed route. Climb its slopes and stairways and you'll find flower-filled patios, makeshift viewpoints and quiet little squares where time seems to stand still. From the highest points, the rooftops of the old town and the sea open up below, especially nice in the late afternoon.
