Alacant — vessant del Benacantil, vora el Parc de l'Ereta

Below the slope of Mount Benacantil, by the entrance to Ereta park, lie 19th-century cisterns carved into the rock that became an air-raid shelter in the Civil War. Today they're a cool little water museum, almost always empty, a stone's throw from the castle and Santa Cruz yet overlooked by the crowds.

Entry is free and it stays cool even in mid-August — perfect for a breather halfway up to the castle. Check the opening hours, as it only opens in set time slots.
