The Parc de l'Ereta climbs the slope of Mount Benacantil, right below Santa Bárbara castle. Above all it is a viewpoint: few panoramas take in the old town of Alacant as fully as this one.

The walk

It is laid out in stepped terraces linked by paths, with a central plaza as a resting point. Its various levels open up views of the old quarter, the harbour and the bay, each framing the scene a little differently. The terraces are gentle enough to take slowly, and benches at each landing make it easy to stop and look.

The best moment

Dusk is when the park is at its best, the city lighting up beneath the castle. Entry is free and it stays quiet even when the seafront is full. It joins easily with the climb to the castle or a wander through the Santa Cruz quarter right next door.
