Torre de la Plaça
Almohad tower from the eleventh and twelfth centuries, in the original core of Benifaió, between the Mayor, del Progreso and del Ángel squares. It formed part of the defensive system of the Islamic farmstead mentioned in the Llibre del Repartiment and is today one of the town's most visible monuments.
The tower is Almohad and is dated to the eleventh and twelfth centuries. It stands in the original core of the Islamic farmstead, at a point surrounded by three squares: Mayor, del Progreso and del Ángel. Benifaió is mentioned in the Llibre del Repartiment on 13 June 1238, which places the site in the documentation of the conquest. The tower formed part of the defensive system of that farmstead and remains one of the most recognisable elements of the old core, so it keeps the memory of Islamic Benifaió alive in the town centre.
