Barri del Pou (Barrio del Pou)

The Barri del Pou is the oldest neighborhood in Cullera: a maze of steep lanes and whitewashed houses climbing the hillside below the castle. Walking through it feels like stepping into medieval Cullera, and the best part is that it's free, no admission fee.

What to see

The point here is the walk itself. Narrow streets, white façades and sharp changes in level trace a layout that has barely changed in centuries. The higher you climb, the better the views over the town and coast get, up to the Cullera castle at the top.

History

This street layout comes from the medieval period, when people lived close to the fortress that protected them. The tightly packed houses and the climb uphill reflect that centuries-old defensive logic.
