Ermita del Santíssim Crist de la Jonquera
A chapel linked to the discovery, on 18 January 1625, of an image of Christ with his feet on a reed bed, found by the brothers Pere and Joan Margalló. The Christ became the patron of Xilxes, and the patronal feast is held in mid-September with religious and festive events.
According to tradition, the brothers Pere and Joan Margalló found an image of Christ with his feet on a reed bed on 18 January 1625. The discovery lies at the origin of the devotion to the patron saint of Xilxes and led to the building of the chapel of the Santíssim Crist de la Jonquera, which commemorates that episode. Of the original chapel, erected after 1625, only a few remains survive, so the present building is the most visible testimony to a devotion that goes back to the 17th century. The story of the temple therefore begins with an object found in the district and turned into a reference image for the community.
