This fortress of Moorish origin stands on the hill of Requena's old quarter, overlooking the medieval town and the broad wine-growing plateau that surrounds it. Its walls, and above all the Tower of Homage (Torre del Homenaje) from the 15th century, standing over 23 metres tall, are visible from much of the Requena-Utiel region.
History
The complex dates back to the Andalusi period, when Requena was a frontier stronghold of considerable strategic value. Stretches of wall from those centuries survive, reinforced and adapted over time. The 15th-century keep is the main defensive structure of the complex.
