Mirador del Cap de Sant Antoni

The Mirador del Cap de Sant Antoni crowns a headland of sheer cliffs that plunge some 160 metres into the Mediterranean, in the Marina Alta. A lighthouse from 1855 tops it, with the Montgó massif at its back and a marine reserve at its feet; from here the view opens across the coast of Xàbia. Access is free.

What to see

The cape gathers several viewpoints leaning out over the void, where the view opens up unobstructed across the sea. On clear days the horizon stretches to the Gulf of Valencia, and at times you can even make out the Balearic Islands in the distance. The nineteenth-century lighthouse, plain and elegant in the manner of its era, marks the highest point and serves as a landmark for finding your bearings on the cape.

Tips for your visit

• Come on a clear day: the crispness of the air decides whether you'll spot the Balearics far out to sea.
• Sunrise and sunset bring the finest light and the most intense colours over the water.
• Lean out with care: these are vertical cliffs without continuous railings, so keep well back from the edge.
• Bring water, a hat and comfortable shoes; there's little shade at the top of the cape.

Those who want to walk can pair the visit with the summit of the Montgó, the backdrop to this whole stretch of coastline.
