El Palau dels Comtes de l'Alcúdia (El Castillo)

Known to everyone in the village simply as "the Castle", the Palau dels Comtes de l'Alcúdia is part of the historic heritage of Canet d'en Berenguer. This manor house looks out over the old town, beside the remains of the former medieval wall, and wandering the cobbled streets around it feels like travelling back to the origins of the barony of Canet.

History

The building stands in the older part of town, tied to Canet's noble origins. Next to the surviving fragments of the wall, it recalls the importance the site held in medieval times, when the community was organised around its lords. The popular nickname "the Castle" reflects the place the palace has always held in local memory.
