Ermita de Sant Cristòfol

On a hill overlooking the historic centre of Sagunto, the Ermita de Sant Cristòfol is considered the oldest hermitage in the Camp de Morvedre. Its origins go back to the Reconquest, a small stone witness to the many centuries of history this city holds. Simple and tucked away, its value lies less in the architecture than in the spot it occupies.

History

Medieval in origin, the hermitage belongs to that first wave of Christianisation of the territory after the Reconquest. Its modest construction, typical of the popular buildings of the area, has survived to become one of Sagunto's most venerable corners. Don't expect lavish decoration: its charm lies in its austerity and in the quiet that surrounds it.

The setting is the real draw. From the hilltop you get one of the finest views of the city:
