Monasterio de Sant Jeroni de Cotalba

A few kilometres from Gandia, in the municipality of Alfauir and surrounded by the rural landscape of La Safor, is the Monastery of Sant Jeroni de Cotalba. Founded in 1388, it mixes styles that have accumulated over the centuries: Mudéjar, Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassical all sit here among cloisters, courtyards and orange-tree gardens.

History

Built in the late 14th century, the monastery was for a long time an important religious retreat in the district. Each era left its architectural mark, so walking through it is like reading several centuries of Valencian history in one place.
