Mercado de Carcaixent
Modernista market hall from 1934 by Alfredo Burguera, in daily use as a food market. Free entry.
On plaza Miguel Paredes in Carcagente, the modernista market from 1934 still serves as the daily food market. Alfredo Burguera signed it, and it keeps the commercial pulse of the centre.
History
The market went up in 1934 to organise food sales in the orange town. The modernista building arranged stalls and counters in a single clear hall, and it has worked as a daily market ever since.
What to see
The 1934 modernista hall, the fruit, vegetable and salted-fish stalls, and the morning-market mood. It is the third stop of the modernista route after the Almacén de Ribera and the Montortal palace.
Tips for your visit
- Go in the morning, when every stall is open.
- Buy Ribera oranges: local produce rules here.
