Arrocería Maribel
In the heart of El Palmar, beside the Albufera lagoon where paella was born, this Michelin Bib Gourmand rice house nails wood-fired Valencian paella and rices like the arroz del senyoret. Produce from the huerta and the lake, honest cooking and water views: the place to understand why rice is a religion here.
💡 Local tip: Book ahead on weekends and order the traditional wood-fired Valencian paella; lunch is best.
Arrocería Maribel opened in 1983 and was the first officially recognized arrocería in El Palmar, the pedanía next to the Albufera, where it's said that paella was born. Over forty years later it still appears in the Michelin Guide with a Bib Gourmand, the distinction that rewards good food at a reasonable price, not a star.
The house maintains rice cooked over a wood fire as its sign of identity: classic Valencian paella, rice from the senyoret (all peeled, no work for the diner) and seasonal rice dishes according to what the day brings. The terrace overlooks the canal, with the natural park behind.
The village is visited on a short escape from València — it's just 15 km away — and combines well with a boat trip on the lake before or after eating.
